Additional Information

Speech and Game Club is open to all K-12th graders and meets on the 1st Thursday of each month from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM during the school year months of September through December and February through May.

The purpose of the club is to help students become more comfortable with public speaking in a supportive and friendly environment, while also building friendships through fun games. Students are not required to prepare a speech. After the speech portion 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, students are invited to stay or join us for board and card games from 3:30 PM to 4:25 PM. Feel free to bring a game to share. Clean-up begins at 4:25 PM. We may begin games sooner if the speech club finishes early, and sometimes there may be an additional activity depending on time.

Speech Club (2:30-3:30pm):

  1. Introduction / Ice Breaker (2:30 - 2:45 PM)
  2. Icebreaker games, topic/impromptu discussions, etc. May have 2 groups, depending on the group size and ages.
  3. We’re going to kick off this month with a fun STEAM icebreaker! Students will work in teams of 2–3 to build their own creation using marshmallows and toothpicks. Each team will then share and explain their creation with the class.
  4. Presentations (2:50 - 3:30 PM)
  5. Chatter and Cheerful Clubbers: Younger children may do show-and-tell, share a favorite book or poem (short poems provided), speak about an animal, or join a topic discussion. They may present from their seat or in front of the group, or simply observe.
  6. Mighty Mic Masters: Older students can prepare a 2-5 minute presentations. Students may follow the monthly theme below or select their own topic for their presentations. Presentations can include a PowerPoint or PDF files emailed to [email protected] by 1 PM on meeting day, or brought on a tablet/laptop with access to an HDMI cable for projection (an HDMI cable is available). Or they are welcome to just use notecards. Whatever they prefer.
